Hello Students & Parents!!!
The RussellATC faculty has adopted a new Cellphone/Electronic Device Policy for 20-21. This policy is designed to increase our student engagement in the classroom. Cell phones and electronic devices are a distraction for the owner and for those around them during class time. Unless specifically directed by the teacher, student use of electronic devices and cell phones during class will not be permitted. Use of devices for educational purposes will be offered at the discretion of the individual teacher.
Student Expectations:
- Cell phones & electronic devices are not allowed to be used during class time. They are not permitted to be visible and in use once the bell rings to start class.
- All cell phones & electronic devices must be secured by the student or placed in classroom charging stations during class time.
- No videos, pictures, or audio recordings by cellphones or electronic devices are allowed in any location or at any time in the RussellATC .
- Students are prohibited to touch or use another student’s cell phone or electronic device at any time.
Consequences for misuse:
1st offense: Warning from the teacher to put the device away
2nd offense: Teacher will instruct student to place their device in a secure classroom designated location, such as teacher’s desk or at the charging station, until after class. Before device is returned, the teacher will meet the student and determine next steps.
3rd offense: Teacher will instruct student to bring their device to the front office of the RussellATC and put their phone on Mrs. Thompson’s desk. Mrs. Thompson will meet with the student prior to the end of the school day for conference and to discuss possible future restrictions. Mrs. Thompson will contact the feeder high school’s administration and contact student’s parents/guardians as well.
*** After 3rd offense, student may be required to place their device in the front office of the RussellATC when they enter the building and pick it up upon exit.
Student mastery of content is the number one priority for our faculty. A copy of this policy will be attached to all course syllabi for parents and students to review and sign.
