Isonville, Russell McDowell win elementary Gov Cup meets



Isonville Elementary and Russell McDowell Intermediate schools took overall top honors at their respective elementary regional Governor’s Cup meets Saturday.

The same two schools also won the quick recall matches that are part of the competition.

The other top five finishers in Isonville’s region included, in order, Rodburn, Prichard, Star and Clearfield elementaries. In Russell’s region they were Poage, McKell, Greysbranch and Ponderosa.

Poage Elementary’s future problem solving team won first place in that competition.

In other academic competition news, the following area middle and high school students will compete at the state Governor’s Cup competition Saturday through Monday in Louisville:

Ashland — Gwynnan Cartmel and Hannah Laney, science.

Raceland-Worthington — Kirk Pence, composition.

Russell — Harper Grizzle and Izzy McCloud, arts and humanities, Anushka Valsan, language arts, Sara Abul-Khoudoud and Billy Gussler, mathematics, Jacob Nance and Ayog Prasad, science, Arnav Dharmagadda and Jackson Raich, social studies.

West Carter — Nathan Gillispie, science.
