Lady Devils dominate South Point

RUSSELL Russell had no trouble dispatching South Point on Saturday afternoon at home.

Russell’s Lakie Sanders continued her high-scoring ways with 19 points. Rachel Michael poured in 18 points. She made three 3s.

Madison Darnell chipped in six points and 10 assists for the Lady Devils. Ty Mitchell had 11 points and five assists.

Emilee Whitt notched 12 points for the Lady Pointers.

Russell (18-6) will enter today’s road matchup with Raceland with an eight-game winning streak in tow.

MAYSVILLE The final margin doesn’t exactly tell the entire story of Saturday’s game between the Lady Royals and Lady Musketeers. Greenup County hung tightly with Mason County until the Lady Royals put together a dominant fourth quarter. Greenup County trailed by just three at intermission and by nine after three quarters. Kara Moran tallied 14 points for Mason County (14-9), which won its fourth in a row. Victoria Brooks scored 12 points. The Lady Musketeers (5-16) were led by freshman Baylee Robinson’s nine points. They’ve dropped eight of their last nine games. They will visit Ashland today at 7:30 p.m.

BOYS Johnson Central 96 Sheldon Clark 54

WARFIELD Johnson Central exploded for 96 points, including 51 from a school-record 17 3-point baskets, on Friday.

Isaiah May, Jacob Rice and Gabe Ferrell combined for 15 triples as all three eclipsed the 20-point mark for the second time this season. May had 20, Rice scored 23 and Ferrell 22.

Rice also notched his 1,000th career point and tallied a game-best nine assists.

The Golden Eagles (12-12) notched 62 first-half points, giving them the second-most in a half in program history.

They racked up 72 in 16 minutes against Catlettsburg on Dec. 2, 1968.

Ethan Colegrove led Sheldon Clark (8-16) with 14 points.

Johnson Central will host Pikeville on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
