R-Flatwoods starts with 13-12 win

MIDDLESBORO The Russell-Flatwoods 8-10-yearold Little League All-Star baseball team claimed a victory in its state tournament opener on Saturday, edging Corbin, 13-12.

Kyle Mokas, Connor Thacker and Hayden McGuire each went 3 for 4 for Russell-Flatwoods. Elijah Hankins, Landon Stapleton and Carson Blevins had two hits apiece. McGuire and Mokas each scored three runs, Mokas doubled twice and Hankins homered.

Hankins also picked up the win on the mound. Russell-Flatwoods faces Paintsville today at 5 p.m.

Bowling Green East 8, Paintsville 1

LONDON Paintsville mustered just three hits and had a rough day defensively, according to coach Joe Collins, at the North Laurel Little League facilities.

“We didn’t play well at all,” Collins said.

“Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.”

Paintsville will meet Glasgow tonight at 7.
