Russell Academic Team wins Governor's Cup Distict Competition

The Russell HS Academic Team won the 2018 District 64 Governor's Cup competition on Saturday with a total score of 82 points.  Raceland finished second with 32 points.
 
The Russell team had all competing members place in the top 5 with the following results:
 
Mathematics: Zach Stafford (1st place), Paul Henderson (2nd place), Alicia Liu (3rd place)
Science: Alicia Liu (1st place Tie), Zach Raich (1st place Tie), Paul Henderson (4th place)
Social Studies: Connor McGinnis (1st place), Rahil Desai (2nd place), Jackson Raich (3rd place)
Language Arts: Maya Abul-Khoudoud (2nd place), Wesley Steele (3rd place), Zach Stafford (4th place)
Arts & Humanities: Meredyth Wilson (1st place), Wesley Steele (3rd place), Izzy McCloud (4th place)
Future Problem Solving: 1st place (Devan Atkins, Connor McGinnis, Maya Abul-Khoudoud, Barrett Blevins)
Quick Recall: 1st place (Zach Raich, Connor McGinnis, Zach Stafford, Maya Abul-Khoudoud)
 
Across the state, we had 4 students place in the Top 10 overall:
 
Alicia Liu & Zach Raich - tied for 1st place in Science
Connor McGinnis - tied for 2nd place in Social Studies
Maya Abul-Khoudoud - tied for 4th place in Language Arts
 
The team will be competing at the 2018 Regionals, hosted by Russell HS on February 17.
