IRONTON Ashland’s girls are collectively and simply a force to be reckoned with.
Coach Phillip Caudill’s bunch blew away the competition in the KOVCCT Meet on Tuesday evening at Rock Hill High School.
Ashland scored 196.5 points, 89.5 points ahead of second-place finisher Fairland.
Rounding out the 10 teams were Coal Grove (89.5), Russell (63), Raceland (63), Chesapeake (40), Rock Hill (30), South Point (28.5), Greenup County (23) and Boyd County (21.5).
Ashland won 11 out of 12 track events, and 11 of 17 events overall.
Ashland’s individual winners were Rachael Barber (100 dash), who returned from a minor injury, Sarah Rymer (200 dash, 400 dash), Rebekah Howard (1600 run, 3200 run) and Hannah Reese (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles). Its 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams also collected titles.
Russell’s Ty Mitchell claimed first place in the long jump.
Rymer was Tuesday’s highest-scoring female.
Fairland’s boys edged Russell, 108-102, for top team honors. Following them were Boyd County (96), Rock Hill (80), Coal Grove (78), Raceland (75), South Point (50), Ashland (37), Chesapeake (35) and Greenup County (2).
Fairland’s Hunter Ashton was the high-point winner. Boyd County’s Reese Robinson was the runner-up in that category.
Robinson was the long jump champion.
Russell’s Landen Duvall seized titles in the 100 and 200 dashes. Raceland’s Kaleb Young also won two events (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles).
Northeastern Kentucky relay champions were Raceland (4x200) and Russell (4x800).
Russell’s Jacob Pierce won the shot put.
