FLATWOODS Russell sophomore Justin Manning entered in the seventh inning and silenced Lawrence County hitters long enough for the Red Devils to finally muster up some extra-inning magic.

Manning delivered four scoreless frames, fanning six. He walked two and gave up just one hit as he picked up his second victory of the season.

Russell beat Lawrence County, 7-6, in 10 innings as Seth Atkins scored the game-winning run on a sharp ground ball to second base struck by Kenith Gomez. The hot shot was too tough to handle for the Bulldogs, allowing Atkins, who had singled with two outs, to score. Troy Gillum had reached on a sizzling grounder to shortstop to keep the inning alive and advance Atkins.

Landon Brewer went 3 for 4 and Nick Conley went 3 for 5 for the Red Devils (10-6).

Casey Hensley hit a one-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up at 6-6, sending the contest to extras.

Atkins and Gillum finished with two hits apiece.

Brad Parks went 2 for 5 to lead Lawrence County (7-5).
