Lady Devils advance at LexCath

LEXINGTON

Alexis Maynard connected on a key 3-pointer and driving basket down the stretch as Russell’s girls got past Bowling Green 58-51 on Wednesday night in the Traditional Bank Classic.

Maison Darnell added a layup to put the Lady Devils up six points late in the game at Lexington Catholic.

Maggie Jachimczuk powered her way to 23 points and 15 rebounds as Russell won for the eighth time in 10 games.

Jachimczuk also reached the 1,000 rebound milestone for her career.

Darnell had 15 points for the Lady Devils, whose quarterfubak opponent will be DuPont Manual.

Markizjah Mimms led Bowling Green with 18 points.

GATLINBURG, TENN. Presley Chirico scored 17 points and unbeaten Paintsville wiped out an early deficit to defeat Leslie County in the opening round of the Smoky Mountain Classic. Trailing 12-8 after one quarrer, Paintsville surged ahead with a 17-7 advantage in the second period.

Anna Keeton scored 15 points and Elizabeth Williams 10 for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 7-0. Keeton and Williams each hit two 3pointers.

Emily Griffith finished with a game-high 25 points to lead Leslie County (4-3).

Paintsville will play South Floyd today.
