Russell Area Technology Center’s Medicaid Nurse Assistant Class would like to thank COSI Columbus and Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, for the live video conference with our students today!! Through this experience, students from Russell Independent & Fairview Independent Schools received a surgeon’s eye view of a total knee replacement, were able to interact with the orthopedic surgeon and the entire operating room team, explore various medical careers and review the anatomy of the human body.
Some great ideas were shared during this exchange with the operating room and 5 other classroom across the nation! We are so happy to be able to provide an innovative way to learn inside the classroom with funding through G.O.A.L. and Kentucky Power with assistance from Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC).
"This experience of watching a live surgery made me even more aware of careers in the medical field that I could enter into to find a career that is more suited to my interest." Mattie Colm (Russell High School, 12th Grade)
"Watching a live experience provided me with front line information to help me choose a career more fit for me. It was great to be able to see every detail of what they do to replace the knee." Brooklyn Maynard (Fairview High School, 12th Grade)
"This was a wonderful learning experience. You could clearly see what they were doing. It put me there in a way and with my interest with the medical field, it really opened my eyes to what all there is to it." Taylor Robinette (Russell High School, 12th Grade)
