Clubs and Organizations
Russell-McDowell Intermediate Middle School is proud to offer a wide variety of clubs and activities for our students. Students choose to participate in these clubs and organizations based on their individual talents and interests. These activities provide students the opportunity to be a part of a group outside of the classroom as they build leadership skills and further friendships, adding to their educational experience.  Read more...   << Close

Elementary Physical Education

Russell Independent's Elementary Physical Education Program works to give students the knowledge and skills they need life a healthy lifestyle. Students develop an understanding of the importance of lifelong physical activity, the importance of teamwork/cooperation, and an appreciation of sport and recreation. There are multiple opportunities for students to participate on sports teams while in elementary grades. While the school doesn't sponsor teams, information about teams is distributed through the schools for interested students.     << Close

Elementary Music Education

Russell Independent's Elementary General Music classes explore all the aspects of music. We learn folk songs, instruments, and dances from different times and cultures. We study the orchestra instrument familes and composers. The children learn many different styles of music and are exposed to all the elements of music. We study melody, rhythm, form, harmony, timbre, dynamics, and tempo. All students use the piano lab to enrich the understanding of the music elements by learning simple ostinatos and rhythm patterns. The pianos also encourage creativity.     << Close

R-MIS and 7 Habits

Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, Rusell-McDowell Intermediate School began implementing the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. The program teaches students the power of living by principles and is based on Sean Covey's children's book by the same title. This is a school-wide initiative and all in our school community are excited about the program.   << Close

Elementary Visual Art Program

Our Art class is a place where we come together each week to view, understand, discuss and create artworks. We gain hands on experience using various media to create art that reflects an understanding of important visual art concepts such as the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Our classroom environment provides a supportive community in which students can express themselves and reflect upon their artistic decisions and the expressions of others. Our classroom also serves an important role as a resource that contributes to the cultural environment of our learning communities at RPS and RMIS.
